Mike Hughes, commercial agent with licensed property specialists Sidney Phillips from York has raised an incredible £21,000 (with donations still coming in) as part of the Power Peloton ahead of the great Tour de France which took place on Saturday 5th July. Ware & Kay Solicitors, based in York, Wetherby & Malton was extremely proud and delighted to sponsor Mike and contributed £1,000 to the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity which is the official charity of the Tour de France Grand Départ.
The Power Peloton saw a hand-picked team of 15 cyclists take on the grueling roads of stage one of the Tour de France's Grand Départ - just hours before sporting legends such as Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish tackled the same roads.
The charity riders headed from Leeds to Harrogate and crossed the finish line to a rapturous applause. After his podium finish Mike relaxed by watching his cycling heroes cross the finish line.
Each of the 15 pledged to raise £19,000, enough to fund a nurse for a year for Marie Curie Cancer Care but Mike has exceeded that. Donations currently stand at £300,000.
Mike said "A massive thank you to each and everyone who has supported me along this long journey. It has been an amazing once in a lifetime experience and a real privilege to be able to help fund the work Marie Curie does by raising this fantastic amount of money".
Ware & Kay supported Mike from the start of his fundraising marathon and on the back of that support many businesses throughout York helped with Mike's fundraising challenge.
