On Friday 22nd June 13 members of staff from Ware & Kay Solicitors (York, Wetherby & Malton offices) will be putting themselves in the shoes of the homeless when they spend the night sleeping in cardboard boxes in the York office car park to raise money for Kitchen for Everyone York #KEY.
Kitchen for Everyone York is a small local organisation in Spurriergate which works to support the homeless by providing meals and outreach programmes and opens its doors to thousands of vulnerable people in York. The organisation has experienced a substantial increase in the numbers of people asking for their help which is why Ware & Kay are keen to help raise money.
Holly Stevens, Residential Property Solicitor at Ware & Kay Solicitors, said: "We will be putting ourselves in the shoes of those who may not have a roof above their heads each night by spending a night experiencing what it is like to be outside in the City on a night time trying to sleep. We are delighted to be able to support this local organisation".
Helen Rawling, Team leader at Kitchen for Everyone commented "Our mission is to help and support individuals who find themselves homeless in our area by providing hearty & nutritional meals, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, snacks and any other essential items they may require. There has been a huge increase in numbers using the service over the last two and half years from initially serving under 10 people per session to now serving between 50 and 70 people. This increase in numbers is becoming increasingly worrying and we suspect is due to the lack of social funding and mental health support within the community. We are extremely grateful to Ware & Kay for supporting Kitchen for Everyone York by doing their sleep out and offer our heartfelt thanks for any donations that may be received to help us continue with the work we do".
